Artificial Intelligence and Marine Hazard Forecasting Griffith University in Australia

Griffith University is offering a fully funded PhD scholarship focused on developing artificial intelligence tools for climate-driven marine hazard forecasting. The project aims to protect marine ecosystems and coastal communities from biological hazards such as Harmful Algal Blooms and Crown-of-Thorns Starfish outbreaks. The research will have real-world impact by improving safety for swimmers, supporting coastal communities, and helping reefs recover.

The scholarship is open to Australian Citizens, Australian Permanent Residents, and New Zealand Citizens. The package includes a tax-free living stipend of $42,483 per year (indexed), plus $25,840 for training, travel, publications, and living costs, totaling approximately $50,000 per year for 3.5 years. A 6-month industry placement with Blue Carbon is included.
