Blue Grant Scholarship

Call for applications: Blue Grant Scholarship under the BE-Prosper Project, a scholarship opportunity focused on strengthening regional capacity in the Blue Economy, fisheries value chains, coastal governance, marine spatial planning, and sustainable ocean management.

The programme is linked to the University of British Columbia (UBC), which is highlighted as a leading university in fisheries economics and management. Successful candidates will first go through IGAD screening and then the UBC graduate application process for the next academic year starting September 2026.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a strong academic or professional interest in the blue economy, fisheries management, fish value chains, regional trade corridors, ports and maritime connectivity. The call targets candidates from South Sudan, Djibouti, and Somalia, aged 25 to 40, and already working in public sector, government, private sector, international/inter-governmental organisations, NGOs, or civil society organisations. Relevant backgrounds include marine and fisheries science, environmental economics, agriculture economics, maritime sociology, veterinary science, community development, maritime or civil engineering, ocean policy, human geography, or related disciplines.

Application process: send a letter of interest addressing the criteria, CV, and copy of university degree to the IGAD contacts listed in the post. Shortlisted candidates will proceed to the UBC admission stage, which includes application materials, reference letters, statement of interest, English language test if needed, criminal record check, thesis supervisor, and proof of citizenship.
