About this position
Applications are open for the fully funded Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-funded London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP) studentships for October 2027 entry. The programme is led by King's College London in partnership with Imperial College London and Queen Mary University of London.
Students can propose their own research project in collaboration with an academic supervisor. The available routes are 1+3.5, comprising one year of Master's study followed by a 3.5-year PhD, and +3.5, comprising a 3.5-year PhD for applicants with suitable prior training. Part-time studentships are available, and some current postgraduate research students may apply for funding for the remainder of their PhD.
Research areas include Global Health Innovation; Business Analytics, Management, and Applied Economics; Language, Culture, and Education; Environment and Sustainability; Global Order and Security; and Public Policy and Governance. Proposals using advanced data skills, quantitative methods, and interdisciplinary approaches are particularly encouraged.
The studentships cover UKRI Home fees for Master's and/or PhD study, provide an annual tax-free stipend of approximately £23,805 for 2026/27, and include additional support for training, fieldwork, placements, and related activities. International applicants may receive institutional support toward the difference between Home and international fees, subject to eligibility. Funded students must complete a three-month placement and submit their thesis within the funded period.
Applicants generally need a first-class or upper-second-class first degree with an average of at least 65%. Applicants for +3.5 awards are expected to have an appropriate Master's degree at distinction or high merit level. Applications close on 20 January 2027 at 17:00 GMT.
