This rigorous 4-year programme offers the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research within leading research groups, supervised by world-renowned academics such as Associate Professor Paolo Barucca. UCL is consistently ranked among the top universities globally, and its Computer Science department is recognized for research excellence and strong industry connections.

The UCL-RES scholarship is open to exceptional applicants from any country who wish to begin their MPhil/PhD studies at UCL in the 2026/27 academic year (starting on or after October 1, 2026). The scholarship covers full tuition fees (Home or Overseas), a maintenance stipend (for 2025/26: £22,780 per year, with 2026/27 rate to be confirmed), and up to £1,200 per year for research costs. The funding is provided for the standard duration of the research portion of the programme (normally 3-4 years for full-time study). The scholarship is highly competitive, with 40 awards available across all disciplines at UCL.

Applicants must hold or expect to achieve at least an upper second-class Honours UK undergraduate degree (2:1) or equivalent in a relevant discipline. A UK Master's degree with Merit or equivalent is also accepted. English language proficiency at UCL Level 1 is required. Work experience may be considered. Candidates must submit a CV, research proposal, academic transcripts, and two academic references. The application process involves sending your CV and research proposal to Paolo Barucca before November 23, applying to the UCL Computer Science MPhil/PhD programme before November 23, and, if selected, participating in an interview. Final scholarship application materials must be submitted to the academic department by January 9, 2026.

Graduates from the programme have secured positions in academia, industry, and leading technology companies worldwide.
