About this position

PhD opportunity at the Babraham Institute (Cambridge, United Kingdom)

This fully funded PhD project is titled “T cell signalling in fibrotic feedback loops” and sits within the Babraham Institute Graduate Programme. The research focuses on fibrosis, endometriosis, CD8 T cell signalling, cytokine signalling, and the molecular mechanisms that connect the fibrotic tissue environment to altered T cell differentiation and function.

The project is a collaboration between the Richard Lab at the Babraham Institute and Cyclana Bio. It investigates how the endometriosis-associated cytokine milieu, especially TGFβ and IL-15, shapes T cell state, cytotoxicity, and immune-stromal feedback loops. The work aims to identify signalling, epigenetic, transcriptomic, and translational mediators of fibrosis-associated T cell dysfunction.

Students will gain experience in both academic and industry settings. At Cyclana Bio, the student will work with clinical samples, 3D tissue models, advanced tissue culture, and imaging. At the Babraham Institute, the student will access expertise and facilities in immunology, signalling, epigenetics, genomics, and data analysis, including flow cytometry, secretion and cytotoxicity assays, migration assays, single-cell and bulk transcriptomics, proteomics, CUT&Tag, CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, and bioinformatics/statistics.

The opportunity is described as a fully funded BioSCaPe iDLA studentship and is open to students worldwide. The studentship leads to a University of Cambridge PhD and starts in October 2027.

Supervisor: Dr Arianne Richard. The post also references Dr Jon Housley and Dr Teresa Rayon as part of the wider Babraham Institute PhD programme context.

Deadline: 8 December 2027. Interviews are expected the week commencing 18 January 2027.

Applicants must meet University eligibility criteria and secure admission to the University. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
