About this position

Graduate Research School Scholarships (UQGRSS), including the Research Training Program (RTP), are available at The University of Queensland for higher degree by research (HDR) study. These scholarships support research projects leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), or a research-focused professional doctorate.

The award provides a living stipend of $39,220 per annum tax free (2026 rate, indexed annually), tuition fee coverage, and Single Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). The scholarship duration is 3.5 years with the possibility of one extension under UQ and RTP policy.

Applicants must be nominated by an enrolling school or institute at UQ and meet all admission conditions for the HDR program. You should identify a supervisor in your field, prepare your documentation, and submit an expression of interest (EOI) for your preferred program. No separate scholarship application is required for the initial stage. Current HDR candidates in PhD, MPhil, or DVClinSc programs may also apply through the round dates using the online application form.

Selection is based on academic excellence, research capability, the quality of the proposed research project, and the strength of the research environment and advisory team. Domestic part-time applicants with carer’s responsibilities, a medical condition, or a disability may be considered on a case-by-case basis with supporting evidence.

This scholarship is open to domestic and international students across all study areas. EOIs are accepted year-round, but applications are only considered within the scholarship round dates.
