About this position

International Affairs Fellowship (IAF) is a one-year fellowship program run by the Council on Foreign Relations for mid-career scholars and professionals seeking to deepen their foreign policy expertise and broaden their professional experience.

The program is designed to give selected fellows a contrasting placement experience: those from academia and the private sector typically spend their fellowship in public service and policy-oriented settings, while government officials spend theirs in a scholarly environment free from operational pressure.

Each year, approximately ten fellows are selected and placed at government bodies, academic institutions, think tanks, or nonprofit organizations. The fellowship is intended to support serious foreign policy analysis and professional development for highly accomplished individuals who can work independently.

The program is administered by the Council on Foreign Relations, a major U.S.-based foreign policy organization, and it is aimed at strengthening analytic capabilities through practical exposure to different policy environments.
