About this position
PhD grant opportunity in Computer Vision at the Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial (CSIC-UPC), within the Robotics Group in Barcelona, Spain. The project is framed under the predoctoral Call FPU2026 and supports research in computer vision, with a specific interest in world models and video understanding.
This is a full-time temporary PhD position for up to 4 years. If the PhD thesis is completed before the end of the grant, the remaining time may continue as a postdoctoral orientation period contract for up to 12 months. The funding package includes 32,500 € gross per year, with a PhD student salary of at least 25,457 € gross per year, 3,350 € for end-of-contract compensation, and 10,000 € for research stays and doctoral tuition fees.
Eligibility is competitive and restricted to applicants with a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) who are enrolled in, admitted to, or able to enroll in a doctoral programme for the 2026/2027 academic year when the contract is signed. Applicants must not already hold a PhD, must not have previously received an FPU grant, and must not have had a predoctoral contract for more than 12 months. For degrees obtained outside Spain, the average grade must be converted using the official Spanish Ministry equivalence procedure, and certificates must be in Spanish or English or accompanied by a translation.
Applicants are also expected to contribute to university teaching during the FPU period for at least 90 hours in total, with a maximum of 180 hours and no more than 60 hours per year. The call indicates that candidates should contact the supervisor well in advance because preparing the application takes time.
The deadline to submit the application is 10 November 2026 at 14:00. The post emphasizes that the selection is highly competitive and specifically asks candidates to contact the supervisor only if their equivalent average grade is at least 8.3/10. Interested candidates should review the official equivalence calculator and prepare their materials carefully before emailing their application interest.
