About this position
PhD scholarship in New-Generation Control of Hybrid Wind, Solar and Battery Power Plants at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Wind and Energy Systems), Roskilde, Denmark.
This is a fully funded 3-year PhD within the WindConnect European Doctoral Network (MSCA). The project focuses on power systems, control engineering, renewable energy integration, and the control of hybrid power plants combining wind, solar PV, and battery energy storage.
The successful candidate will develop a technology-agnostic two-layer control architecture for utility-scale hybrid power plants, with work spanning controller design, high-fidelity modelling, simulation, and possible experimental validation at DTU’s MW-scale hybrid power plant research facility in collaboration with European Energy.
Research activities include benchmarking existing HPP control architectures, identifying interoperability and communication challenges, designing and implementing a two-layer controller, evaluating performance in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD or similar tools, and contributing to publications, conferences, IEA Wind Task 50, and WindConnect training.
Eligibility highlights: applicants need an MSc (120 ECTS or equivalent) in electrical engineering, power system engineering, control engineering, or a related field; strong fundamentals in power-system dynamics and control; and experience with dynamic modelling/simulation. MSCA mobility and experience rules apply.
Application deadline: 2026-11-22. Apply online and submit a single PDF with cover letter, CV, transcripts, diploma, and a 1-page research statement.
