About this position

This PhD scholarship is based at Monash University’s Clayton campus in Melbourne and sits at the intersection of quantum computing and artificial intelligence. The project aims to develop novel quantum artificial intelligence models that are intrinsically robust against adversarial attacks, with potential applications in areas such as autonomous vehicles, military systems, and medical diagnostics.

The successful candidate will join the Scalable Quantum Systems Lab, led by Professor Muhammad Usman in the Faculty of Information Technology. The lab is described as a hub for innovative quantum computing work, with projects spanning national-scale testbeds, quantum applications for major events, and quantum AI for defence. The student will be part of a wider research program that includes interaction with post-doctoral researchers and other PhD students in the faculty.

The opportunity is framed as a highly interdisciplinary research position combining quantum technologies, machine learning, and robust AI model development. It is intended for a candidate who wants to contribute to cutting-edge research in a world-class environment with strong links between academic and industry-oriented applications.
