About this position
Trinity College Dublin is offering a four-year PhD studentship in the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering on Cross-Layer Design and Optimisation of Backside-Powered 3D ICs.
The project investigates backside power delivery networks (BSPDNs) in heterogeneous three-dimensional integrated circuits. Research themes include parameterised electrical models for BSPDNs, vertical interconnects and workload-dependent current demand; fast electrical and electro-thermal analysis using model-order reduction, graph-based representations and machine-learning surrogate models; constrained multi-objective optimisation of backside metal allocation, power-via placement, power-distribution-network sizing and physical design; and reproducible validation using OpenROAD-based flows and representative benchmark circuits.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Georgios Floros and will combine electrical engineering, VLSI design, electronic design automation, scientific computing, artificial intelligence and physical-design optimisation. The project offers opportunities for international collaboration, publication in leading conferences and journals, and contributions to open-source research tools.
Applications close on 13 January 2027. Applicants should submit a full CV with the names and contact details of two referees, including email addresses, to Dr. Georgios Floros at [email protected]. Funding and salary details are not specified in the vacancy.
