Iland Postgraduate Research Studentship Award

Newcastle University is advertising the Iland Postgraduate Research Studentship Award (2026–27 entry) for a PhD in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

This opportunity is aligned with research in European history, European culture, political thought, language, and literature. The post was shared by Professor Daniel Siemens, Professor of European History at Newcastle University, who notes that there is a strong group of potential PhD supervisors available.

Funding: the studentship is funded for 3 years, covers tuition fees at the home rate, and includes an annual stipend of currently £21,805. The award is open to both Home and International applicants, although international recipients must secure alternative funding for the difference between Home and International fees.

Eligibility: applicants must either hold an offer of admission for a PhD starting 1 October 2026 or be a current PhD student who will have completed no more than 18 months of full-time study or 36 months of part-time study by that date.
