About this position

PhD studentship at the University of Warwick, School of Engineering in the Interdisciplinary Collaboration in System Medicine (ICSM) Research Group.

The project focuses on machine learning, AI, and clinical decision support systems for high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy. The aim is to build a user-friendly software tool that predicts HFNC outcomes earlier and more accurately than current clinical indices, helping clinicians identify patients who may need escalation of treatment.

This is an industrially funded PhD with UK tuition fees covered and a tax-free stipend of £21,805 per year for 3.5 years of full-time study.

Eligibility: home students only. Applicants should have a good 2.1 Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering, Computational or Physical Sciences, or Physiology/Medical Sciences. Interest in mathematical/computational modelling and simulation is important.

Deadline: 17 August 2026.

How to apply: submit an expression of interest with a CV and supporting statement via the Warwick engineering scholarships application page. Successful candidates will then be invited to make a formal application.
