About this position

Women in AI/ML Doctoral Fellowship 2026 is open for women PhD researchers in Sub-Saharan Africa who want to integrate Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning into their doctoral work.

The fellowship supports research across AI, machine learning, and related interdisciplinary areas such as Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, Public Health, Environmental Science, Sociology, Demography, Development Studies, Political Science, and Data Science.

Selected fellows receive a USD 5,000 research grant plus mentorship, technical capacity-building, workshops, seminars, and access to a global community of AI/ML researchers and practitioners.

Funding may be used for tuition, computing resources, software, data acquisition and analysis, mentorship support, travel, fieldwork, and other approved doctoral research costs.

Eligibility is for women who are currently enrolled in or admitted to a PhD programme at an accredited institution in Sub-Saharan Africa and who can show a clear plan to use AI/ML methods in their research.

Applicants must create a profile on the KAIA Network platform and submit the fellowship application through the network. The deadline is 31 July 2026.

This is a strong opportunity for women doctoral researchers seeking research funding, technical support, and international networking in AI and machine learning.
