About this position

MINARET is recruiting 15 fully funded PhD researchers through an MSCA Doctoral Network coordinated by Lund University and involving 11 leading universities across Europe.

The network examines the sociology of post-imperial Islamic legal cultures and the relationships between law, religion, governance, constitutionalism, democratisation and social change. Projects address Muslim-majority societies shaped by imperial legacies and contemporary political transformations, with a geographic focus spanning Central Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.

Doctoral researchers will join an international and interdisciplinary training environment, working with leading scholars through joint supervision. The network combines academic research with international fieldwork, academic and non-academic secondments, and collaboration with universities, civil society organisations and policy actors across multiple regions.

The collective call provides access to 15 separate PhD projects hosted by European universities, each offering a distinct research topic within the broader MINARET framework.
