About this position
The Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) is offering a postdoctoral fellowship for beginning researchers in the mathematical sciences or a closely related field. The fellowship is designed to support a research project hosted at an AARMS member university in Atlantic Canada, with the expectation that the postdoctoral researcher will work closely with one or more faculty supervisors and contribute to the research environment at the host institution.
Applicants are asked to identify potential supervisor(s) from AARMS member universities and may also propose a co-supervisory team across Atlantic Canadian institutions. The postdoctoral project is expected to be developed in consultation with the supervisor(s), and the application must explain the intended research area and how the candidate will interact with the host researcher(s).
The award is intended for early-career scholars who have recently completed, or will soon complete, a PhD. The advert notes that proposals should normally be hosted at a different university from the PhD-granting institution and that co-supervisors outside Atlantic Canada may be included, although the fellow may not spend more than one semester per year outside Atlantic Canada.
The fellowship is framed as a research-focused appointment, with renewal in the second year depending on satisfactory progress reported by the supervisor(s). The position is administered through AARMS and reviewed by its Scientific Review Panel, with final recommendations made to the AARMS Executive Committee.
The advertisement also highlights AARMS’s broader commitment to supporting participation from underrepresented groups in the mathematical sciences.

The proposed supervisor must be a full-time tenure-track or tenured faculty member at an AARMS member university, and the proposed research must be in the Mathematical Sciences or a closely related field. Applicants are expected to contact prospective supervisors in advance, provide a cover letter naming the supervisor(s), an up-to-date CV with publication list, a detailed research description and interaction plan, at least two letters of reference, and completion of the EDI self-identification questionnaire.
How to apply
First identify one or more eligible AARMS member-university faculty members who are willing to supervise your project. Then apply through MathJobs for the AARMS Postdoctoral Fellowship and upload the cover letter, CV, research plan, reference letters, and EDI questionnaire.
