About this position
The Air Force Institute of Technology is offering a graduate internship in the Applied Research Center for Hypersonics (ARCH) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, within the U.S. Department of Defense/ORISE research participation framework. The project sits at the intersection of hypersonic science, computational electromagnetics, and vehicle design.
As an ORISE participant, you will join scientists and researchers working to explore, develop, implement, and test computational methods for generating electromagnetic field data for arbitrary objects of interest. The internship uses frequency-domain and time-domain EM codes together with a repository of basic vehicle shapes to produce electromagnetic signature responses and related data products.
The work aims to extend the ARCH multidisciplinary analysis and design framework so it can incorporate electromagnetic effects for detecting and tracking objects across the hypersonic speed range. In practice, this means combining parametric geometry modeling, computational EM analysis, and hypersonic vehicle concepts to support rapid shape exploration and design studies.
You will be guided by a mentor and gain hands-on experience in a research environment that includes training on available EM codes, parametric geometry integration, and exposure to selected hypersonic science and technology topics through the ARCH-AFRL Hypersonics Symposium.
