About this position
The Systems Engineering Research Center/Acquisition Innovation Research Center (SERC/AIRC) at Stevens Institute of Technology is seeking an AIRC Research Fellow to help lead advanced technical and policy research on defense acquisition innovation. The fellowship sits within AIRC, a center established to connect government acquisition teams with faculty research teams and to develop, prototype, and test new ideas across technology, process, policy, contracting, law, and human capital.
The role focuses on practical, high-impact research aimed at improving acquisition outcomes. The fellow will work on the digital transformation of acquisition processes, including data collection and governance, data sharing, and analysis. The position also involves evaluating statutes, regulations, policies, and guidance tied to functions in the defense acquisition system, and identifying changes or waivers that could improve outcomes while weighing costs, benefits, risks, side effects, and implications for both government and industry.
This is an externally engaged research role that interfaces frequently with government representatives. The fellow will help define problems, access and interpret data, share preliminary results, prepare status reports and technical briefings, and translate findings for non-specialists. AIRC operates within SERC, a University-Affiliated Research Center of the U.S. Department of Defense, and draws on the research strength of senior lead faculty and researchers from a large network of collaborating universities across the United States.
The appointment is part-time and available immediately, with annual renewal depending on funding availability.
