Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Deputy Athletics Director – Senior Woman Administrator for Intercollegiate Athletics. This confidential position reports directly to the Director of Athletics, working closely in all matters related to Intercollegiate Athletics, specifically as it relates to the student-athlete experience.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Ensures efficient and effective deployment of resources to assure that high standards for service levels are maintained, that tasks, projects, and assignments are appropriately prioritized and that timelines are met.
- Serves as a liaison to the student athlete, assuring that student, university, and divisional interests are appropriately represented and advanced, and fostering and maintaining strong and productive relationships and effective communications with the public served by the Division of Athletics.
- Utilizes excellent judgment, communication skills, business savvy, organizational and interpersonal skills in order to appropriately identify emerging situations, assess potential sensitivities and volatilities, and, where appropriate, assist in crisis management by taking the steps necessary to resolve the situation or escalate in a manner which is compliant with policy and procedures, sensitive to confidentiality, respectful of the needs of all parties involved.
- Provides oversight and guidance as it relates to sports health, drug testing, student-athlete development, human resources, compliance and revenue generation.
- Serves as the liaison to Academics as it relates to policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates thorough understanding of Division I intercollegiate athletic programs.
- Provides daily direction and advice for select sports.
- Ensures that all aspects of each program assigned is properly managed within the expectations set forth by the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics.
- Conducts post season review of head coach in each sport overseen.
- Conducts quarterly meetings of support staff for these programs.
- Participates in and/or attends team activities such as practices, away competitions, home competitions, and other team activities.
- Administers Human Resources management for the Athletics Department.
- Oversees employee recruitment, appointment, compensation, and evaluation processes.
- Collaborates with University HR to create and implement approaches for Talent Development of Department of Intercollegiate Athletics staff.
- Handles Compliance and House Settlement Implementation.
- Supervises the Athletics Compliance unit.
- Works collaboratively with the reporting parties to oversee all platforms and procedural operations to ensure efficiency and effective administration of the new collegiate model, with a focus on revenue sharing, student-athlete contracting, and cap management/budgeting.
- Evaluates and advises the Director of Athletics on the overall investment in revenue sharing, with particular focus on competitive opportunity.
- Oversees, directs and advises the Office of Student-Athlete Development and Success.
- Sets goals for student-athlete development and success with the Senior Associate Athletic Director.
- Ensures the office is meeting the needs of student-athletes in the areas of career development, personal development and community service, as well as is responsive to the needs of student-athletes.
- Ensures the office is setting and assessing progress towards measurable outcomes annually.
- Acts as liaison with Sports Health unit.
- Meets regularly with Chief Medical Officer and Director of Athletic Training Services to strategize on policies, procedures, and best practices for coverage of Rutgers' 24 sports/700 student-athletes.
- Consults with Chief Medical Officer and Director of Athletic Training Services as issues or concerns are raised by coaches, student-athletes and/or administrators.
- Ensures Sports Health staff (who are primarily employed by Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital/Barnabas Health) is aware of Rutgers policies and procedures that they must follow.
- Assists with administrative tasks on Rutgers' behalf as necessary.
- Directly oversees Rutgers employed staff that work in Sports Health Suite.
- Ensures Alcohol and Drug Education and Testing Program is updated, disseminated and enforced as outlined.
- Acts as primary designee for Director of Intercollegiate Athletics as it relates to the Alcohol and Drug Education and Testing Policy.
- Serves as liaison with Academic Services for Student-Athletes.
- Facilitates communication on behalf of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and Academic Services for Student-Athletes.
- Ensures Executive Director of Academic Services for Student-Athletes is aware of any concerns raised by coaches, student-athletes and others.
- Assists with fundraising, donor relations, and revenue generation strategies in coordination with the Director of Athletics, Chief Revenue Officer, and development staff.
- Represents the department at public events and cultivate relationships with alumni, donors, and community leaders.
- Coordinates season end surveys for student-athletes, act as designated departmental Senior Woman Administrator, coordinate various regional and national award nominations, coordinate NCAA committee nominations.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and at least seven (7) years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of executive office management, work organization, coordination, and athletic practices.

Special Conditions:
- As a member of the Athletic Department's Executive Committee; this position is expected to be available seven days a week to communicate effectively with constitutes ( BIG 10 Conference Office, colleagues, donors, and athletic personnel), attend athletic events, participate in conference calls/meetings that have the ability to impact the overall operations of the Athletic Department.
Salary: $250,000 - $300,000
