About this position
The U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (USAISR) is offering a translational large animal research opportunity in burn resuscitation at Joint Base San Antonio. The project sits within the Organ Support and Automation Technologies Department and places the participant in an active military medical research environment focused on optimizing combat casualty care.
The selected researcher will work with USAISR’s established swine burn model to examine the effects of automated resuscitation on outcomes after severe burn injury. The opportunity also includes work on hemorrhagic shock resuscitation research in the automation space, with exposure to experimental automated medical systems such as automated burn resuscitation, hemorrhagic shock resuscitation, ventilator control, and anesthesia control systems.
In addition to the core burn resuscitation project, the participant may contribute to related research efforts and gain broad exposure to medical automation for critical care. The role emphasizes hands-on learning in large animal research, surgical techniques, and the development of new medical engineering products within a combat casualty care research setting.
The appointment is hosted by the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research, one of the U.S. Army’s lead research laboratories for improving the care of combat casualties.
