About this position
This fellowship is centered on respiratory virus surveillance and public health data science within the Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Viruses Division (CORVD) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta. The project focuses on the Respiratory Virus Hospitalization Surveillance Network (RESP-NET), a multisite, population-based surveillance platform that tracks laboratory-confirmed hospitalizations linked to influenza, COVID-19, and RSV among children and adults in the United States.
Working with the RESP-NET team, the fellow will contribute to the operation and coordination of a large surveillance network spanning 15 U.S. sites. The role emphasizes data collection and quality, integration of multiple data sources, reproducible analysis, and the development of surveillance tools, guidance, visualizations, reports, presentations, and manuscripts. The fellowship is designed to provide hands-on training in the analysis and interpretation of respiratory virus hospitalization data for public health decision-making.
Under the guidance of CDC scientists, the fellow will join a multidisciplinary environment focused on surveillance, epidemiology, prevention, and control of respiratory syncytial virus, SARS-CoV-2, and other respiratory viruses. The training environment highlights advanced analytic methods, computational workflows, and communication of findings to technical and non-technical audiences, with a strong emphasis on transforming surveillance data into actionable public health information.
