About this position
The Precision Medicine and Neurogenetics Division in the Department of Neurology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a full-time, two-year Clinical Research Postdoctoral Fellowship in neurogenetics. The position is located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with a proposed start date of July 1, 2025, and is open until filled.
Fellows will join UNC Neurogenetics, a collaborative research and clinical hub focused on neurogenetic disorders. Research may include basic science, clinical research, quality improvement and assurance, and projects such as the Genetic Determinants of Neurological and Neurodevelopmental Disorders study. Activities include analyzing clinical and genetic datasets, mining research and clinical databases, generating hypotheses, developing investigator-initiated projects, preparing manuscripts and presentations, and managing submissions for publication. Some fellows may serve as mentored principal investigators.
The fellowship is 100% research-based, with possible opportunities for clinical neurogenetics training or clinical duties depending on the applicant's background and divisional capacity. The environment includes collaborations across neurology, genetics, pediatrics, maternal-fetal medicine, neuroscience, health informatics, developmental disorders, and precision medicine. Fellows may also mentor junior researchers and participate in professional development lectures, meetings, and journal clubs.
Applicants must hold a PhD or relevant terminal degree such as an MD, DO, or MCG, with substantial research training beyond non-PhD degrees where applicable. Doctoral training must be completed at an accredited program by the fellowship start date. Applicants pursuing clinical opportunities need a relevant accredited residency or MCG completed by that time. Required skills include genetics research experience, complex dataset analysis, integration of clinical and genetic information, strong publications and presentations, multidisciplinary collaboration, and mentoring. Next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, genomic data analysis, neuroscience, health informatics, and neurogenetics experience are desirable.
The appointment is full time for two years. Compensation is dependent on qualifications. UNC-Chapel Hill offers postdoctoral medical and vision coverage, paid leave, and other benefits and services. Applications should include a CV or resume; a cover letter is optional. Apply via the UNC PeopleAdmin posting.
