About this position
This faculty research fellowship at Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio (NAMRU-SA) places the selected participant inside the Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine Directorate, a multidisciplinary research environment focused on advancing military medicine.
The fellowship emphasizes hands-on engagement with ongoing studies in combat casualty care and operational medicine. Work may involve testing and evaluating blood products, resuscitative adjuncts, and biological countermeasures for combat-related injuries, as well as investigating the biological mechanisms of combat trauma, directed energy exposure, extreme environmental stressors, and toxicant exposure.
Participants will contribute to experimental science across physiological and cell culture-based research settings, with opportunities to develop and refine data collection, analysis, and interpretation methods. The role also includes exposure to laboratory operations such as instrumentation upkeep, quality assurance and quality control, standard operating procedure development, and experimental design.
Research activities may also involve whole-animal and cell-based platforms, scientific data visualization, and contributions to proposals, reports, presentations, and manuscripts. The setting is NAMRU-SA, part of the U.S. Department of Defense research enterprise and the Naval Medical Research Center laboratory network.
