About this position

The Rube Lab at the University of California, Merced is seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join an NSF-funded project focused on leveraging compressed sensing to accelerate proteomics research. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr.

Tomas Rube (UC Merced) and Dr. Marko Jovanovic (Columbia University), as well as a larger interdisciplinary team, to develop computational methods for designing and interpreting pooled high-throughput experiments. The overarching goal is to create and refine a platform that enables the detection of protein-protein interactions at unprecedented scale and efficiency by integrating computational and experimental technologies. The postdoctoral scholar will be responsible for developing state-of-the-art methods for compressive measurements, collaborating with experimental scientists to iteratively improve the research platform, and disseminating results through publications and conference presentations.

Additional responsibilities include mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, participating in professional development activities, ensuring best practices in data and project management, and staying current with technological advancements relevant to the research. Ideal candidates will have a PhD in a relevant field such as bioinformatics, statistics, genomics, applied mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, or physics. They should possess a deep understanding of statistical modeling, inference, and compressed sensing, as well as experience with large biological datasets (e.g., mass spectrometry or DNA sequencing). Proficiency in Python or another general-purpose programming language and experience with high-performance computing are highly desirable.

A strong publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals is also preferred. The Rube Lab is known for its inclusive and collaborative environment, prioritizing team science and offering opportunities for both independent and collaborative research. The position is fully funded by the NSF, with a competitive salary range of $69,073 to $82,836 per year for a two-year appointment. The anticipated start date is January 1, 2026, but this is flexible and can be moved sooner if needed.
