About this position

CSIRO is advertising a Postdoctoral Fellowship in zoonotic pathogens and advanced cell models at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), Geelong, Victoria, Australia.

The role sits within CSIRO’s Early Research Career (CERC) Fellowships and is aimed at researchers who have completed a doctorate (or are close to completion) and have no more than three years of relevant research experience. The successful candidate will develop and optimise an advanced tissue platform using precision-cut tissue explants for high-consequence pathogen research.

Research activities include tissue culture, virology, molecular and cellular biology, biological imaging, pathology, experimental design, data analysis, and scientific publication. The fellowship also offers training in high-containment research and collaboration with national and international partners to support studies of disease pathogenesis, medical countermeasures, and non-animal disease models.

Essential requirements include a PhD in a relevant area such as virology, cell biology, or advanced cell culture, experience with cell or tissue culture systems, strong communication skills, evidence of publication or equivalent scholarly output, and creativity in research. Desirable experience includes infectious disease research, imaging, pathology, and work in PC3/PC4 facilities.

The position is full-time for 3 years with a salary of AU$103k–AU$113k per annum plus 15.4% superannuation. Applications are open to Australian citizens only. To apply, submit an online application with a CV and a cover letter (maximum 2 pages) addressing the selection criteria. The closing date is 22 November 2026 at 11:00pm AEDT.
