About this position
The Meng Lab at Virginia Tech is seeking a postdoctoral associate to study how hepatitis E virus infects across species barriers and jumps from animals to humans. The project is centered on understanding the mechanisms that shape cross-species transmission, with the successful candidate working independently in a multidisciplinary environment under the supervision of a molecular virologist and a chemical engineer.
The research sits at the intersection of virology, cell biology, and translational infection biology. It emphasizes the biology of a positive-strand RNA virus and the factors that govern host range and species jumping. The lab seeks a researcher who can help dissect the viral and cellular determinants of hepatitis E virus infection, contributing to a broader understanding of zoonotic viral emergence.
Virginia Tech provides a large, transdisciplinary research setting with strong links to medicine, veterinary medicine, and graduate education. The university describes itself as a comprehensive land-grant institution and a leading global research university, with a broad research ecosystem and multiple campus and institute connections.
The post is in the Meng Lab, with direct academic contact provided by Dr. Xiang-Jin Meng.
