About this position
The LIGO Laboratory is seeking one or more postdoctoral researchers to work on data analysis for the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, a major research effort in gravitational-wave physics and astronomy. The successful researcher will join a laboratory managed by Caltech and MIT and contribute to the analysis of LIGO data for diagnostic purposes and astrophysics searches.
The postdoctoral researcher may also participate in detector characterization and calibration efforts, gaining experience with the observational and technical side of a world-leading gravitational-wave observatory. The role sits within LIGO’s broader research and development program supporting current and future gravitational-wave detectors, with work connected to observatory sites in Hanford, Washington and Livingston, Louisiana.
Successful applicants will interact with faculty members Alan Weinstein and Katerina Chatziioannou at Caltech and Salvatore Vitale at MIT, alongside the laboratory’s wider network of researchers and personnel. The project is broad in scope and welcomes candidates from multiple disciplines, especially those with interests in astrophysics, modeling, and data analysis.
This is a research-intensive position for scientists who want to contribute to the analysis and interpretation of gravitational-wave observations in an active, collaborative laboratory environment.
