About this position
ETH Zurich’s Optical Nanomaterial Laboratory in the Physics Department is recruiting a doctoral researcher for a project on mid-infrared integrated photonics and optical sensing.
The research focuses on developing integrated MIR photonic devices for advanced sensing and spectroscopy, with applications in environmental monitoring, biomedical diagnostics, industrial process control, and fundamental research. The successful candidate will work across the full device-development pipeline: numerical modelling, photonic layout design, micro- and nanofabrication in the cleanroom, optical/electrical measurements, MIR characterization, spectroscopy experiments, and data analysis.
This opportunity is especially relevant for candidates interested in physics, electrical engineering, photonics, materials science, integrated photonics, nonlinear optics, nanophotonics, waveguide optics, and laser-based spectroscopy. Experience with cleanroom processes, lithography, etching, thin-film processing, simulation, Python/MATLAB, or frequency conversion is advantageous.
The position is fully funded and intended for four years. ETH Zurich offers an international, interdisciplinary research environment with access to advanced facilities, publication and conference opportunities, and strong professional development support.
Applicants should hold, or be close to obtaining, a Master’s degree in a relevant field and should submit a cover letter, CV, Bachelor’s and Master’s transcripts, and two referees through the online portal only.
The start date is flexible. No application deadline is stated in the post.
