About this position

Doctoral Researcher in Entrepreneurship at the University of Luxembourg, within the Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and New Technology (EINT) research group led by Prof. Christian Fisch.

The position is aimed at a doctoral candidate who will develop a cumulative, paper-based PhD thesis in entrepreneurship. The thesis topic is open within EINT’s broad research areas, including entrepreneurial finance (venture capital, business angels, crowdfunding), sustainable entrepreneurship (climate change, sustainability certifications, impact investing), and entrepreneurship and AI (AI adoption by entrepreneurs, AI as a method in entrepreneurship research). The group focuses on novel phenomena, large-scale data, quantitative methods, and impactful publications in leading entrepreneurship and management journals.

The research environment is interdisciplinary and internationally oriented, with close collaboration with industry and policy partners. The successful candidate will join a team of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, benefit from existing projects, methodological expertise, and data infrastructure, and take substantial responsibility for independently developing and executing a research agenda.

This is a quantitative and empirical PhD position. The thesis is expected to use large-scale datasets, statistical programming, and econometric methods. Applicants should have strong quantitative preparation and relevant empirical research experience; a general interest in entrepreneurship, finance, sustainability, or AI without the methodological background is not sufficient. A completed or nearly completed master’s degree in management, business administration, economics, finance, or a related field is normally expected. In exceptional cases, candidates with a technical master’s degree in computer science, data science, or a closely related field may be considered if they can clearly connect their background to theoretically grounded entrepreneurship research.

Required skills and eligibility include advanced training in empirical research methods, statistics, or econometrics; practical experience with Stata, R, or Python; strong communication skills; curiosity; independent working style; and excellent English at C1 level. Candidates must also demonstrate at least B2-level proficiency in the language of the thesis.

The contract is a fixed-term doctoral appointment for 36 months, extendable to 48 months. The yearly gross salary is EUR 44,531 for full-time work. The role is based at the Kirchberg Campus in Luxembourg.

To apply, candidates should submit a CV, motivation cover letter, transcript of all modules and results, and the master’s thesis or another substantial independent piece of written work if the thesis is not yet finished. Applications must be submitted online through the HR system; email applications are not considered. Early application is encouraged because applications are reviewed as they arrive.
