About this position
Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, invites applications for a fully funded doctoral student position in the synthesis and processing of solid-state electrolytes for next-generation batteries.
The research combines polymer science, materials synthesis, materials engineering, electrode processing, and scalable battery manufacturing. The project will investigate polymer-based solid-state electrolytes, battery component properties and interfaces, and processing strategies that improve manufacturability. The doctoral student will work collaboratively with Chalmers, Fraunhofer in Germany, RISE in Sweden, and Swedish industrial partners, and will undertake a research exchange at Fraunhofer for at least six months.
Applicants must hold a relevant master's degree or an accepted four-year bachelor's degree earned outside Sweden, with a background in materials science, chemical engineering, materials mechanics, polymer chemistry, materials chemistry, physics, or production engineering. Strong English communication skills and experience with lithium-ion batteries and/or solid-state electrolyte batteries are required. Experience in solid-state electrolytes, electrode processing, battery manufacturing, or battery binder development is advantageous.
The position is fully funded, with a four-year fixed-term appointment that may be extended to five years with up to 20% teaching or other duties. The starting salary is 35,725 SEK per month from 1 May 2026, and doctoral students are employed by Chalmers with employee benefits. Physical presence is required throughout the study period, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.
Apply in English by 15 December 2026 through the online application portal. Submit a CV, personal letter, bachelor's and available master's thesis, and transcripts as PDF files. Applications sent by email or incomplete applications will not be considered.
