About this position
This research opportunity places a student or recent graduate in the Defense Threat Reduction Agency’s Test and Assessment Department, within the Test Diagnostics Branch, to support instrumentation development and testing for the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) testing program.
Working under the guidance of a mentor as an ORISE participant, the selected candidate will contribute to the development and fielding of new and upgraded instrumentation equipment used in CBRNE test events. The work includes measurements related to pressure, temperature, force, displacement, and chemical, biological, and radiological detection. The project is centered on building practical test instrumentation and improving how data are collected, documented, and applied during experimental fielding.
The participant will join a research environment focused on hands-on instrumentation work, with exposure to precise measurement of high-frequency phenomena, hardware and software development for test systems, and the creation of instrumentation plans for test events. The role also involves documenting instrumentation development, fielding methods, and results, providing experience in the full lifecycle of applied test diagnostics.
This appointment is hosted by the U.S. Department of Defense through the Defense Threat Reduction Agency in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is administered through ORISE.
