About this position

The Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology – BIPS in Bremen, Germany, is offering a PhD position in the Department of Statistical Methods in Epidemiology. The role is for a Statistician/Biometrician (PhD student) to join the Statistical Modeling of Secondary and Registry Data Unit, which specializes in developing new statistical methods for analyzing medication use, effects, and risks using large secondary datasets such as the German pharmacoepidemiological research database (GePaRD) and the Bremen Cancer Registry. The research group is internationally recognized for its expertise in bias avoidance strategies, including target trial emulation and methods for handling time-dependent and unmeasured confounding.

The position is full-time (39.2 hours/week), initially for three years, with the possibility of extension and suitability for part-time employment. The salary is based on the German public sector scale (TV-L 13). Remote work is not permitted. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics, or epidemiology, and a keen interest in statistical aspects of secondary data analysis and epidemiological applications.

The working group is involved in cutting-edge research on causal inference, cancer screening effectiveness, pharmacoepidemiology, and bias modeling, with access to extensive health data covering millions of individuals. Supervisors include Dr. Bianca Kollhorst and Prof. Dr.

Vanessa Didelez. Interested applicants should contact Dr.

Kollhorst for further information and check the BIPS website for formal application procedures.
