Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden, invites applications for its prestigious Excellence Doctoral student positions in Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies. These fully funded PhD positions offer a unique opportunity for highly motivated graduates to pursue advanced research in the dynamic and interdisciplinary field of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Successful candidates will have the freedom to select their research group from any department at Chalmers working in the Nano Area of Advance, allowing for a tailored and flexible doctoral experience.

Research at Chalmers in nanoscience and nanotechnology encompasses fundamental studies of chemical and physical phenomena at the nanoscale, as well as the development of innovative technologies that leverage these unique properties. The program is designed to foster scientific excellence and prepare students for diverse career paths, including academic research, industry, and entrepreneurship. As a doctoral student, you will take advanced courses, develop your own scientific concepts, and communicate your research findings both verbally and in writing. The position typically includes teaching or other departmental duties, accounting for up to 20% of your working hours.

Applicants must hold a relevant Master's degree in natural sciences or engineering (120 or 60 credits), or a 4-year Bachelor's degree for those educated outside Sweden. Strong English communication skills and personal competences such as collaboration and social skills are required. Experience in any subfield of nanoscience or nanotechnology is advantageous but not mandatory. The final exam of your master studies must occur after June 1, 2025, and candidates already enrolled in a PhD program are not eligible. Physical presence in Sweden is required throughout the study period, and a valid residence permit must be presented by the start date.

The doctoral positions are fully funded from the outset, with a starting salary of 34,550 SEK per month (from May 25, 2025), and include all employee benefits. The appointment is for four years, with the possibility to extend to five years if teaching duties are undertaken.
