About this position

The University of Florida’s Natural Resources Leadership Institute (NRLI) is hiring a non-tenure-track Extension Assistant Professor based in Gainesville, Florida.

This role sits within the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences and supports NRLI’s mission to prepare leaders who use collaborative approaches to bridge differences and sustainably manage Florida’s natural resources.

The position is centered on experiential instruction, program development, partnership support, facilitation, and graduate/undergraduate teaching. The successful candidate will help deliver educational modules, develop curricula, support partnerships inside and outside UF, and facilitate meetings, retreats, and multi-stakeholder processes related to decision-making, conflict management, mediation, and dialogue.

Research/teaching interests and keywords: natural resources leadership, environmental science, education, management, stakeholder engagement, collaborative decision-making, conflict management, mediation, facilitation, extension education, and partnership development.

Eligibility highlights: applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent highest degree and have at least 3 years of relevant experience. The posting specifically looks for demonstrated skills in two or more of stakeholder engagement, experiential instruction, group facilitation, conflict management, mediation, and/or partnership development. Familiarity with natural resource issues and a willingness to travel extensively in Florida are required. Preferred experience includes NRLI or a similar program, 10+ years of experience, and international/multicultural or non-academic experience.

Funding/salary: salary is commensurate with experience and education. This is a faculty appointment rather than a student scholarship.

Application window: for full consideration, apply by 2026-06-16. The position remains open until a viable applicant pool is identified. The appointment is expected to begin on or after 2026-07-01.

How to apply: submit the application online through Careers at UF with a cover letter, CV, contact information for three referees, and unofficial transcripts. Nominations are also welcome.
