About this position
U.S. Food and Drug Administration Public Health and Regulatory Research Fellowship in the Office of Commissioner’s Public Health Strategy and Analysis Staff (PHSA) in Silver Spring, Maryland.
This fellowship places a participant inside the FDA’s science-based regulatory work at the intersection of public health policy, epidemiology, and regulatory science. The research opportunity is organized across three connected areas: drug competition and access, FDA regulatory pathways, and global health. In the first area, the fellow will analyze drug approval programs, generic and biosimilar market dynamics, and how regulatory pathways affect availability and affordability of medicines. In the second, the fellow will examine the design, use, and public health outcomes of FDA regulatory pathways, including expedited programs and novel approval mechanisms. In the third, the fellow will contribute to research on FDA’s international public health mission, including global drug quality issues, cross-border regulatory challenges, and partnerships that strengthen international regulatory systems.
The participant will work on research and analytical activities supporting FDA priorities and will gain experience producing policy-relevant publications and scientific papers. The fellowship is located within the FDA Office of Commissioner, where PHSA provides policy-making, coordination, liaison, and expert advice in support of the agency’s regulatory mission. The environment is oriented toward applied analysis and public-health-focused regulatory research.
The appointment is full time and initially offered for 12 months, with the possibility of renewal depending on FDA recommendation and available funds.
