About this position
The National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management, operating within Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, is recruiting a fixed-term Research Officer for research and studies connected with national land, infrastructure, transport and tourism policy.
The successful researcher will plan, draft, coordinate and implement research conducted by the institute, with particular relevance to urban planning, housing, land, roads and rivers. The work sits at the intersection of civil engineering, urban development and public policy, supporting evidence-based policy formation through the accumulation and exchange of knowledge between government practice and academic expertise.
Potential research directions include urban development responding to climate change and water disasters, housing support for people requiring special consideration, and the overseas development of infrastructure and urban development, including smart cities. Applicants may also propose research themes relating to cities, housing, land, roads, rivers, construction or real estate.
The role is based in the institute’s existing research departments at Yotsuya Tower in Tokyo and offers an opportunity to contribute to applied research with direct relevance to public infrastructure and urban policy in a national research and government environment.
