About this position

Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, USA, is offering a fully funded, two-year Master’s graduate research assistantship in Geography with a focus on meteorology, beginning in Fall 2027.

The thesis project will examine supercell–squall line mergers and their effects on mesoscale dynamics and rear inflow. Research may include numerical modelling, mesoscale meteorology, radar observations, atmospheric analysis, convective life cycles, and mesoscale convective systems. The Dillon Blount Research Group also studies interactions between convective systems and terrain in the Appalachian Mountains.

Applicants should hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree with strong preparation in meteorology, atmospheric science, geography, physics, mathematics, or a related field. Interest in mesoscale meteorology, numerical modelling, severe storms, and scientific programming is highly desirable. The application deadline is January 15, 2027.
