About this position
The University of Miami's Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) is accepting applications for a full-time, on-site Postdoctoral Research Associate position in Miami, Florida, United States.
The researcher will validate and improve numerical model forecasts from the Hurricane Analysis and Forecast System (HAFS), with emphasis on model physics, particularly boundary-layer and convective physics. The work will include comparison with relevant observational datasets, analysis and interpretation of results, presentations at scientific meetings, and publication in scientific journals.
The position involves close collaboration with scientists in NOAA's Atmospheric Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML), especially the Hurricane Research Division. Research interests include atmospheric science, tropical cyclone numerical modeling, hurricane forecasting, boundary-layer structure, convective processes, model evaluation, and observational data analysis.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science or a related field. Desired experience includes tropical cyclone numerical simulations, analysis of tropical cyclone model output, or analysis of tropical cyclone observations. Strong programming and scientific communication skills are required. Experience with tropical cyclone boundary-layer structure and research aligned with NOAA Hurricane Research Division activities is advantageous.
Applicants should prepare a current CV, statement of interest, and the names of three individuals able to provide letters of recommendation. The posting does not state a closing deadline or funding details. The University of Miami is an equal opportunity employer.
