About this position

Miami University’s Wagner Lab in the Department of Biology is recruiting for three fully funded positions in aquatic ecology and fisheries science in Oxford, Ohio, USA. The post highlights research on how global change affects aquatic ecosystems and freshwater fisheries, with interests spanning climate change, land use and management, invasive species, eutrophication, and persistent chemical pollutants such as PFAS.

Open positions: 1) PhD Graduate Assistantship in Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Biology (preferred); 2) MS Graduate Assistantship (strong MS candidates in Biology also considered); 3) Research Associate in Aquatic Ecology and Fisheries Research.

Funding: The PhD and MS assistantships are fully funded and include a stipend plus full tuition waiver through a combination of research and teaching assistantships. The Research Associate role is a paid staff position for one year, renewable annually up to two years depending on funding.

Research focus: Developing research questions on global change drivers and their effects on aquatic ecosystems and freshwater fisheries, working within interdisciplinary federal, state, and academic teams. The Research Associate role includes research, manuscript writing, project/lab management, team coordination, and mentorship of undergraduate and MS researchers.

Eligibility highlights: For the graduate assistantships, applicants should have a BS or MS in ecology, fisheries, ecological statistics, or a related field, plus a strong quantitative background or willingness to learn Bayesian hierarchical modeling and strong communication skills. For the Research Associate role, an MS or PhD in a related discipline is required, along with strong quantitative skills, experience with R and Bayesian hierarchical modeling, and boat/backpack electrofishing experience; LaTeX is preferred.

Deadline: Priority consideration is given to applications submitted before 2027-11-15; review is rolling until filled. The Research Associate role is also reviewed on a rolling basis.
