Fully Funded PhD in AgriSolar Grazing Systems and Agrivoltaics University of Limerick in Ireland

Applications are now open for a fully funded PhD in AgriSolar Grazing Systems at the University of Limerick, Ireland. This project is part of the OviVoltaics initiative, funded by Research Ireland and industry partners, and focuses on integrating utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems with sheep production systems.

The research sits at the intersection of agriculture, environmental science, renewable energy integration, and climate resilience. It will examine how agrivoltaic systems can improve land-use efficiency while supporting food security, sustainable livestock production, forage quality, grassland ecology, animal nutrition, and livestock health and welfare.

Successful candidates will join an internationally recognized multidisciplinary research team, receive advanced research training, and conduct large-scale field research in Ireland. The project is especially relevant for applicants interested in agrivoltaics, sheep production, grassland science, and sustainable agriculture.

Eligibility highlights: a BSc with Second Class Honours or higher in Agricultural Science, Animal Science, Grassland Science, or a related discipline is required. An MSc in a related field is desirable. Applicants must also have a full clean driving licence, be able to drive on Irish roads, and have access to a personal vehicle for fieldwork.

Funding: the studentship provides a €31,000 annual stipend, includes tuition fees, and is tenable for four years.
