About this position
Exciting fully funded PhD opportunity in Bioinformatics and Precision Oncology at the Centre for Genomic Medicine. This project focuses on understanding why solid tumours are difficult to treat, particularly their molecular heterogeneity, complex microenvironments, and resistance to therapy. The research aims to identify tumour-driver-dependent pathways and vulnerabilities from genomic, transcriptomic, and other molecular datasets, validate computational targets in relevant solid tumour models, and investigate how these vulnerabilities change during sustained local chemotherapy.
The PhD offers training across bioinformatics, multiomic analysis, molecular and cellular biology, cancer pharmacology, and precision medicine. It combines computational discovery with lab-based validation and is designed to generate insights that may apply across multiple cancer types. The project is strongly suited to students interested in cancer genomics, molecular oncology, computational biology, and translational research.
Eligibility: applicants should have a 1st or 2:1 in a relevant subject, or a 2:2 plus a Masters with Distinction. A 5-page research proposal and personal statement are required. The post is open to UK or Irish nationals, or those with settled or pre-settled status.
