About this position
Erasmus University Rotterdam's Rotterdam School of Management is recruiting a fully funded, salaried PhD candidate in business ethics, responsibility, sustainability and management. The position is based in the Business-Society Management department and allows the successful candidate to define an original research project within the department's expertise.
Possible topics include business ethics, corporate misconduct, sustainability in multinational enterprises and global value chains, systems and resilience thinking, corporate communication, sensemaking, grand challenges, social enterprises, commons and cooperatives, organisational stigma, stakeholder management, and responsible behaviour. Research may examine how organisations and the people within them respond to social and environmental change, ethical challenges and sustainability demands.
The four-year PhD programme combines independent research with supervision, courses, seminars, faculty collaboration and methodological training. The preferred background is a master's degree, or near completion, in business, management, sociology, economics, psychology or a related discipline. Candidates should identify a specific topic and suitable methods, and ideally have experience with statistical, experimental or interview-based research. Qualifying TOEFL or IELTS scores, or an approved exemption, are required.
PhD candidates become employees of Erasmus University Rotterdam and receive a salary of €3,204–€4,051 under Dutch university employment conditions. Additional funding supports a three- to six-month research visit at an international university. Applications are due by 15 January 2027.
