About this position
Two-year Postdoc, Department People & Organisations at Erasmus University Rotterdam / Rotterdam School of Management.
This is a two-year postdoctoral opportunity for an early career researcher interested in organizational research, ethnography, and social entrepreneurship. The postdoc will work closely with Dr Rebecca Hewett on a longitudinal study in partnership with the Social Innovation Academy (SINA), a network of academies that supports disadvantaged young people to become social entrepreneurs.
The project offers a rich empirical field across SINA academies in multiple African countries, Nepal, and soon Germany. It is designed as an intellectually open, collaborative research environment with strong methodological support and room to develop an independent research trajectory while contributing to a coherent high-impact project.
Research themes may include democratic organisation and participation, the experiences and learning processes of young people, community dynamics, social entrepreneurship, the functioning of the network organisation, and broader social and institutional dynamics in local contexts. The project is especially interested in process and system dynamics, decentralised organising, and the principle of “freesponsibility” (freedom and responsibility).
The postdoc will be based in the Department of People and Organisations at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, within a research-focused and international group. The broader research environment includes Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM). The project aims for scholarly impact through conference presentations and journal publications, practical impact through recommendations to SINA, and societal impact through knowledge dissemination.
Ideal candidates will have experience in organisational ethnography or at least strong ethnographic methods such as field observation and interviews. The role involves active contribution across the research process, including data collection, field-note taking, archival record management, analysis, theory development, and academic writing. Experience with fieldwork in the Global South, particularly in a country where SINA operates, is advantageous but not required.
Application deadline: 2026-11-30. Apply via AcademicTransfer using the link provided in the posting.
