About this position
The University of East Anglia is advertising a fully funded PhD project in developmental biology focused on cardiac progenitor cell migration and how heart progenitors find their way to the embryonic heart field.
The project will use live cell imaging to track migrating cardiac progenitors and molecular functional approaches to identify the cellular machinery that interprets signalling cues during heart development. You will also gain experience in molecular biology, molecular genetics, CRISPR/Cas9 gene perturbation, microscopy, and computational analysis of migration trajectories.
You will join a collaborative supervisory team at UEA: Andrea Munsterberg, Tim Grocott, and James Mccoll. The project is part of the Norwich Research Park Biosciences Doctoral Training Programme (NRPDTP) and is shortlisted for funding for October 2027 entry.
Funding includes tuition fees, a living stipend, and a Research Training Support Grant. The programme also includes a three-month professional internship placement (PIPS) and comprehensive training support.
Entry requirements include at least a UK equivalent Bachelors (Honours) 2:1 and IELTS 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each category (or equivalent). The project is full-time and open to students worldwide.
Interested applicants should visit the NRPDTP website for eligibility information and application guidance, and use the bespoke personal and research statement templates required for the application. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on 2nd, 3rd and 4th February 2027.
