The University of Cape Town’s School of Public Health is offering a prestigious, fully funded 3-year PhD opportunity in Epidemiology or Biostatistics. This doctoral award is among the most competitive in South Africa and is designed for candidates passionate about advancing research in quantitative health sciences. The Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is a vibrant academic hub, engaging in research and training that impacts public health policy and practice locally and globally.

Eligibility: Applicants should have completed or be near completion of a Master’s degree in Epidemiology or Biostatistics, with strong research experience, proficiency in R, and excellent communication skills. A clear interest in one or more of the listed fields is essential. Candidates must demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team, and evidence of self-directed learning and academic excellence.

Funding: The award provides R380,000 per year (tax-free) for three years, covering both living expenses and tuition fees. The funding is renewable annually based on performance, and recipients are expected to participate fully in the academic life of the Division and School.
