Funded PhD opportunity at The Francis Crick Institute with Dr Stephen Wilson. This project investigates developmental biology , genetics , zebrafish , eye formation , retinal morphogenesis , extracellular matrix , and mechanobiology . The research asks why congenital defects of eye formation show variable penetrance and severity, and how developmental robustness influences whether defects appear in one or both eyes. The student will use CRISPR-based screening to identify genes that modulate robu...

About this position

Fully funded PhD opportunity at University College London (UCL) in the UCL Cancer Institute, London, focused on paediatric glioma and zebrafish imaging.

The project will investigate how paediatric glioma cells interact with the neurovascular microenvironment using advanced zebrafish models, live imaging, quantitative image analysis, molecular biology, and single-cell/spatial transcriptomics. This is an interdisciplinary doctoral project at the interface of cancer biology, neuroscience, developmental biology, and vascular biology.

The opportunity is advertised by Ivan Bassi (Senior Research Fellow, CRUK @ UCL) together with Prof. Simona Parrinello. The post is aimed at a motivated student who is excited by interdisciplinary research and in vivo imaging.

Funding: Fully funded Cancer Research UK PhD studentship. No stipend amount, tuition breakdown, or additional allowances are specified in the post.

Eligibility highlights: Interest in cancer biology, neuroscience, developmental biology, or vascular biology; enthusiasm for imaging-based and molecular approaches. No explicit language-test waiver, fee waiver, or other waiver is mentioned.

Deadline: 28 July 2026.

How to apply: Use the UCL job details page linked in the post to access the official application information. Prepare and submit the application before the deadline. Review the posting carefully for any required documents or portal steps.
