About this position

Measuring What Matters is a funded PhD project at the University of Portsmouth focused on improving the clinical assessment of individuals with limb difference.

The research will bridge the gap between what matters to patients and what is measured in rehabilitation. It will integrate patient-centred, functional and biomechanical outcomes to support more meaningful evaluation of rehabilitation interventions and patient experience.

The doctoral researcher will work at the intersection of biomechanics, clinical rehabilitation and patient-centred research, investigating how assessment approaches can better reflect functional priorities and outcomes for people with limb difference. The project is supervised by Amy Wright and Tim Exell, with Carolina Gonçalves and expert advisor Chantel Ostler contributing to the research team.

The opportunity offers a research environment combining biomechanical expertise with clinically relevant, patient-centred approaches to rehabilitation assessment.
