About this position

Ulster University is offering a funded PhD opportunity on seafood, environmental contaminants and pregnancy. The project examines how seafood consumption during pregnancy may provide nutritional benefits while also contributing to exposure to environmental contaminants, with a particular focus on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

The research will compare maternal exposure in Northern Ireland and the Seychelles. By investigating this balance between the benefits and potential risks of seafood consumption, the project aims to generate evidence that can inform future dietary guidance and support maternal and child health.

This interdisciplinary doctoral research connects nutrition, environmental health, contaminant exposure, pregnancy research and public health. It offers a study environment focused on understanding how dietary patterns and environmental contaminants affect maternal exposure across distinct geographical settings.
