About this position
The Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley is seeking a Gordon and Betty Moore Postdoctoral Scholar in theoretical condensed matter physics, supported through the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Emergent Phenomena in Quantum Systems (EPiQS) initiative.
The fellow will join the Berkeley Condensed Matter Theory Center and work closely with its members, with the opportunity to collaborate across the group. The position is embedded in a broad theory environment connected to Berkeley faculty whose interests span topological phases of matter, open quantum systems, strongly correlated superconductivity, transport and nonequilibrium processes, artificial atomic and condensed-matter systems, tensor network and numerical methods, and the interface between quantum information and condensed matter physics.
The advert emphasizes an independent research environment: Moore Postdoctoral Scholars can pursue their own directions while working with multiple faculty members. The position is described as part of a program supporting early-career theorists in quantum materials, within a research community that spans experimentalists, materials synthesis experts, and theorists focused on emergent behavior in complex quantum matter.
The postdoctoral scholar will be considered for a position in the Berkeley Condensed Matter Theory Center and will have access to the center’s faculty network and research interests. The post is anticipated to last three years.
