About this position

A fully funded, non-clinical PhD studentship is available at the University of Cambridge, starting in October 2026. This interdisciplinary project is based in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care and focuses on identifying shared drug targets between cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and over 300 non-cardiovascular diseases. The research integrates genomics with real-world evidence to explore drug repurposing opportunities that could address non-CVD indications while reducing cardiovascular risk.

The project is supervised by Dr. Elias Allara (HDR UK Clinical Research Fellow), Professor Angela Wood (NIHR Professor of Health Data Science), and Dr. Suvi R. K.

Hokkanen (Senior Director at Novo Nordisk), providing both academic and industry perspectives. The collaboration aims to bridge academic research and industry application, offering a unique opportunity for innovative public health research and the development of novel prevention strategies. Applications are open until 2 December 2025. Interested candidates should have a strong background in a relevant field and a keen interest in interdisciplinary research.
